Victory!

On June 29 '08 I finished my FIRST half marathon in Rio de Janeiro Brazil! Due to the completely different environment I ended up with heat stroke or dehydrated and hurled 15 mins after I crossed the finish line. Next time I will bring a fuel belt with me no matter how many water stations they 'say' there is. The last three kilometers were sure a struggle! But I made it!

I'm contemplating a full marathon for 2010. We will see what my schedule is like into the future. Marathon training takes considerable time. Four hour run every Sunday anyone? yuck.

baby steps forward... with matching shoes!

On Friday I went to physio and with a doctors note basically saying I can progress as quickly as my body will allow. This being established with my physiotherapist, I was told to put my right running shoe on... I was actually wearing a matching pair of shoes! Seems like a small thing, but in my head it is pretty huge! I then walked around with the aid of crutches for about 2 minutes perfecting my new gait and then trying it between parallel bars. This is something new that I can practice at home. I also walked around my apartment and cleaned it today without crutches. I am not going to lie, I am really tired now... but being tired in a clean apartment is quite a nice feeling! Hopefully I will be able to walk without crutches or the aircast soon and look like a normal person... I mean I don't mind the stares but it is getting to be annoying, three months of questions and sad stares start to get to you... I would just for once like someone to smile at me or just say hi without asking me questions about my bum ankle... yes I am starting to get jaded by this whole experience...
